When a child comes into this world, he is vulnerable to the surroundings. The people who protect him from any potential harm are his parents. Parents brought a human life in this world and are a source of one’s existence.
The identity we have today is solely because of your parents. A child learns every step of this life from the knowledge his parents have about life. Every person owes a lot to his parents and this is the most genuine and cherished relationship one can have in this life.
A mother in particular has kept her child in the womb for nine months and nourished the child so that he can grow. When the child arrives, the first smile to welcome him is the smile of his mother. She endured immense pain to bring the child in this world.
All her pain instantly vanishes when she gets the first glimpse of her child. After birth, the cycle of life continues in a manner that the child learns everything from his parents and especially his mother. He is taught how to walk and speak.
When he grows up, he is taught the lessons of life so that he becomes a stronger person. The father plays an equally important part in bringing up his child. All the necessities of the child are fulfilled by the father. He provides him with all the best facilities which he can afford so that his child does not suffer in any way.
Now when the parents get old, they require their children to look after them. When they were young, they took care of their children and now when they become frail, the children should take the responsibility of their parents.
Islam has always stressed on the fact that the most important people in one’s life are parents. Muslim Sharia has laid down many principles and laws which gives full rights to the parents. According to Muslim Sharia, the mother holds thrice as much status as a father.
It has been said that paradise lies under the feet of the mother. It is mandatory for children to obey their parents. If one of them or both of them reach old age, a child cannot say a single word that would hurt them. As mentioned in the Quran:
“Thy Lord hath decreed that ye worship none but Him, and that ye be kind to parents. Whether one or more attain old age in thy life, say not to them a word of contempt, nor repel them, but address them in terms of honor. And out of kindness, lower to them the wing of humility, and say, “my Lord! bestow on them Thy Mercy, even as they cherished me in childhood.” (Quran 17: 23-24)
